Ludwig V had the Library Building built from 1520 to 1544 between the Ruprecht and the Ladies Building, however over the ward, i.e. extended to the west. The building erected in the late Gothic style had heatable rooms and was probably richly appointed. It housed the castle library, the Electoral archives, the treasury and the mint. On the preserved courtyard side an octagonal oriel adorns the facade. Today only the rooms on the ground floor one again have a roof.
